This quintessential terraced Devon cottage is filled with quirky features and period charm. Dating back to the 1700s, the property has a comfortable and rustic interior and lovely secluded outdoor spaces in which to enjoy the open air of this peaceful Devon waterside setting.
Inside the cottage, you’ll find cosy yet spacious rooms. The thick, irregular stone walls offer a constant reminder of the heritage of this home, while the white finishes throughout keep it light and bright. The living room’s feature fireplace and exposed wooden beams further enhance the cottagey charm.
Porthole Cottage comes with some lovely outdoor spaces too. Step across the lane at the front of the house and you’ll discover a private garden with a patio and picnic bench, close to the foreshore of Noss Creek. At the rear of the cottage there is a terraced garden nestled on the sloping landscape – with a patio area secluded in mature planting and high stone walls – perfect for catching the sun and gazing out down the slope of the valley and across the village.

Location
Porthole Cottage is situated in a highly desirable spot near the water in the South Devon village of Noss Mayo. Set alongside a lane in the heart of the village, the house is ideally placed for the multitude of attractions and sights on offer here.
The proximity of the cottage to Noss Creek – an inlet of the Yealm estuary – is convenient for anyone who loves to get out on the water to row, paddle or sail. Or simply to sit and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the estuary, with its changing tides and a backdrop of the pretty twin villages of Newton and Noss, set among gently rolling hills.
Plus, the highly prized Ship Inn is literally only steps away from the cottage – ideally located if you fancy a pint or a glass of wine, and perhaps a meal from the pub’s excellent menu. Across Newton and Noss, you can also find a selection of other pubs, shops, tennis courts and children’s play parks.
The cottage is also positioned right on the South West Coast Path. This route around Noss Mayo takes you through some of Devon’s most picturesque walking territory. You can stroll through quaint winding country lanes, ancient woodland and open countryside, and out to clifftop paths with breathtaking viewpoints over the English Channel.
Getting there
By car
Travel along the A38 to Yealmpton. At a crossroad in the villages, turn down into Torr Hill (B3186) and continue onto Ford Road. Follow this road all the way into Newton Ferrers. Continue onto Parsonage Road then onto Bridgend Hill. Follow this road with Newton Creek on your right then at the head of the creek, take a sharp right round into Stoke Road. Take a right fork onto Revelstoke Road, then a sharp right round into Hillhead and onto Passage Road. Porthole Cottage is a short way along on your left with its parking space opposite, on the right of the lane, shortly before the Ship Inn pub.
By train
There are plenty of train services to Plymouth city centre. From here, there is a bus service to Noss Mayo but it is infrequent – you may find it easier to use one of the many taxi services available for the remaining half-hour journey to your holiday cottage.
By coach
There are numerous coach services serve Plymouth, arriving in the heart of the city centre. From here, there is a local bus service is available but it is infrequent. You may find it more convenient to take a taxi for the half-hour drive to Noss Mayo.
