Honeysuckle Cottage is a gorgeous traditional Devon cottage. It is filled with period features, including exposed ceiling beams, a large fireplace housing a wood burning stove, deep recessed windows and thick stone walls.

While it has abundant cottagey charm, this is also a surprisingly spacious property with a light, airy feel. The lounge and kitchen are generously proportioned, and there are three king sized double bedrooms (one en-suite), plus plenty of additional storage areas, providing ample space for a family or group of friends to stay very comfortably.

There are also some wonderful modern features that blend seamlessly with the old. The large kitchen combines cottage appeal with high-quality modern facilities, including an integrated induction hob and oven, and a dishwasher. Plus, there’s a separate office where you can dock to if you need work.

You’ll also get stunning views of the Yealm estuary and the pretty slopes of Noss Mayo in the lounge, two of the bedrooms and from the lovely elevated terraced garden – which the ideal spot for enjoying a meal or a drink out in the fresh air.

Location

Honeysuckle Cottage is positioned in an idyllic waterside spot in Newton Ferrers, in the South Hams, close to the South Devon coast. Just a few steps across the lane from the house is a slipway leading to Newton Creek.

Newton Ferrers and its twin village Noss Mayo on the opposite side of the creek are a quiet, picturesque spot, and offer plenty to do and see. With their rolling banks, river and winding lanes, Newton and Noss provide a lovely slice of Devon village life beside the water.

There are stunningly scenic walks around the villages and out to the coast, where dramatic cliffs meet the the English Channel. The tidal estauary is ideal for swimming, paddleboarding or kayaking (with convenient space to store wetsuits at the cottage). Across the villages, there’s a selection of charming pubs serving delicious meals, tea and coffee, cake and ice-cream, plus a good selection of beverages including wine and local ales. Local shops and butchers are also conveniently located in Newton Ferrers.

Getting there

By car
If coming from the east, head to Exeter then west along the A38 (or past Plymouth along the A38 if coming from the west). Take the exit for Smithaleigh/Yealmpton and when you arrive in Yealmpton, turn left into Torr Hill, driving on to Ford Road and along the B3186 and continue onto Parsonage Road, then onto Yealm Road. Turn left down onto Newton Hill then left again onto Riverside Road East. The cottage is located a little way along on the left.

By train
There are frequent rail services to Plymouth city centre. From here, there is a bus service to Newton Ferrers. If the timings aren’t convenient, it may be easier to take a taxi for the remaining half-hour journey to your holiday let.

By coach
Numerous coach services arrive at Plymouth station, located in the centre of the city. From here, a local bus service is available to Newton Ferrers – or you may find it more convenient to take a taxi service for the remaining half-hour drive to your holiday house.
