The master bedroom, on the lower floor, opens via folding patio doors to a large decked terrace, with a table and chairs set, and stylish glass and steel balustrades. This makes the perfect spot for al fresco dining and taking in picture-perfect views over the river, countryside and gorgeous sloping valley of Newton Creek. There are wonderful views from inside the master bedroom and the adjacent second bedroom too.

Spectacular views continue into the open-plan living space on the upper floor. The living space offers lofty vista through full-height glazed doors and a glass Juliet balcony, while the dining room opens through sliding doors onto a balcony with a chair from which to gaze at the long, wide views over the river.

The house offers a comfortable home from home. Light and airy, with white walls and a combination of wood floors and carpet, its laid-back interior invites you to chill and enjoy the slow-paced Devon lifestyle.

Location

Southerly is found in an idyllic spot overlooking the river in Newton Ferrers, a village near the sea in the south-west corner of Devon.

Newton Ferrers and its twin village Noss Mayo opposite are a peaceful community set around the Yealm Estuary. With their rolling banks, river and winding lanes, Newton and Noss provide a wonderfully scenic location for a relaxing Devon holiday.

There’s also plenty to see and do around this area. There are highly scenic walks around the villages and out to the coast, where the dramatic cliffs of the south coast meet the expanse of the English Channel. Within the villages, there’s a selection of charming pubs serving delicious meals, coffees and ice-creams, as well as a range of alcoholic beverages, including local ales. You’ll also find a local shop and butchers for convenient supplies within walking range.

Getting there

By car
If coming from the east, head to Exeter then west along the A38 (or past Plymouth along the A38 if coming from the west). Take the exit for Smithaleigh/Yealmpton and when you arrive in Yealmpton, turn left into Torr Hill, driving on to Ford Road and along the B3186 and continue onto Parsonage Road. As you enter the village, turn left into Yealm Road.

By train
There are frequent rail services to Plymouth city centre. From here, there is a bus service to Newton Ferrers. If the timings aren’t convenient, it may be easier to take a taxi for the remaining half-hour journey to your holiday let.

By coach
Numerous coach services arrive at Plymouth station, located in the centre of the city. From here, a local bus service is available to Newton Ferrers – or you may find it more convenient to take a taxi service for the remaining half-hour drive to your holiday house.
