Location

The Southern Shed is found at Briar Hill, a small development of similar timber-built detached holiday lodges. This is located in Newton Ferrers, a pretty village set on the Yealm Estuary.

Newton Ferrers, together with the neighbouring village of Noss Mayo, offers a picture-perfect slice of authentic Devon life. These friendly villages include a selection of treasured local pubs, where you can discover great local cuisine, in addition of course, to a tempting choice of beverages. You’ll also find shops, a Post Office and plenty of other local services in this thriving South Devon community.

Life in Newton and Noss is centred around the River Yealm, which runs between them. This spot is a haven for boaties and paddleboarders. A short walk will take you to the coast, where stunning ocean views await. There are also plenty of sandy beaches nearby for a classic seaside day out, plus enchanting coves, perfect for exploring and rockpooling.

Getting there

By car
Take the A38 towards Plymouth and exit at Smithaleigh/Yealmpton. Continue into Yealmpton, then turn left into Torr Hill, onto Ford Road and along the B3186. From here, follow signs to Newton Ferrers. Drive into the village and along the main street to The Green. You’ll find Briar Hill on your right, immediately before the church.

By train
There are frequent rail services to Plymouth city centre. From here, there is a bus service to Newton Ferrers but the timings may mean it’s more convenient to take a taxi for the remaining half-hour journey to the holiday lodge.

By coach
Numerous coach services arrive at Plymouth station, located in the centre of the city. From here, a local bus service is available to Newton Ferrers, or you may find it more convenient to take a taxi for the half-hour drive to your holiday lodge.

Noss Mayo is another pretty village nestled on the opposite bank of the River Yealm. A 25 minute stroll takes you around the creek to the other side, where alternative views and various nature-filled walks await, along with an extra selection of pubs to check out.

Nestling in a rocky cove, this sheltered beach boasts soft golden sand, rockpools and shallow waters, making it perfect for a family seaside day out. What’s more, it backs on to classic rolling Devon landscapes and links to coastal paths with sensational views.
